Many records were set at the 2018 Automechanika in Frankfurt (Germany): more exhibitors, more visitors, more trade fair area, and more internationality. Within this favourable environment, the ZF Aftermarket Division, one of the globally leading automotive suppliers, presented more than global innovations, drive concepts and offers aligned towards the digitalisation of the auto workshop business. The company’s new alignment, which is well known by its slogan “see. think. act.”, was staged for the first time at the automotive aftermarket trade fair with the industry-specific slogan “Next generation aftermarket”.

The new design at the Automechanika for the first time

The concept and design of OSK (Oliver Schrott Kommunikation) included – apart from the presentation at the trade fair of the Aftermarket brands Lemförder, Sachs, TRW, Boge, ZF Services also under consideration of the overall presentation at this strategically important trade fair – the umbrella brand ZF. A clear product orientation of the company brands with open access and orientation was therefore possible for the guests.

It was a conceptual challenge to optically connect the three individual ZF stands in the corner of the hall (that included an emergency exit door) while, at the same time, meeting the trade fair’s safety requirements. The upper floor’s facade was installed as a semi-transparent sight protection for the meeting areas using a sloped slat construction. Thanks to a special approval received from the trade fair organisation, both hall aisles were overbuilt. This enabled the holistic architectural presentation of the trade fair stand. At the same time, a pleasant atmosphere evolved in the communication zone, which was bathed in the warm, subdued light.

KECK, as a long-time trade fair partner to ZF, was again entrusted with the complete execution and realisation of the concept. This included the coordination of all trades such as steel construction, stage and lighting technology, AV technology and networking. This was a huge challenge that the KECK team was able to complete in only six weeks from the initial approval of the plans to the beginning of construction.

A special attraction was created by the illuminated, wave-shaped “ZF Grids” that were suspended from the ceiling above an LED display featuring a digital control system. For the set-up and the entire networking of the product world including the media technology, about 5,000 meters of cable were laid in 9 days by 40 assembly engineers working around the clock.

Another special feature were the four large ZF logos – each with a diameter of 1.70 m and each weighing 120 kg – that were attached to the facade. In addition, during the trade fair, the stand was reconfigured by the two ZF auto doctors in order to host a variety of events such as the press conference or the TV-recording done by the VOX.
